HYDRO-FLEX Molded Expansion Joints
Series 240

Hydro-Flex Series 240 Non-Metallic Expansion Joints are designed for tough demanding industrial applications, as found in: Air Conditioning-Heating and Ventilation Systems, Chemical-Petrochemical and Industrial Process Piping System, Water-Wastewater-Sewage and Pollution Control Systems. Installed next to mechanical equipment or between the anchor points of a piping system, they Absorb Pipe/ Movement/ Stress, Reduce System Noise, Isolate Vibration, Compensate Alignment/Offset, Eliminate Electrolysis, Protect Against Start-Up/ Surge Forces.

Spherical Shapes – Stronger - More Efficient.
Featuring an engineered molded style single design bellows, the Hydro-Flex Series 240 is inherently stronger. Internal pressure within a sphere is exerted in all directions, distributing forces evenly over a larger area. The spherical design “flowing arch” reduces turbulence, sediment build up, thrust area and the effects of thrust on the piping system equipment.

Greater movements are available with the Hydro-Flex Series 240. Spherical type expansion joints readily absorb axial compression, elongation, deflection and angular movements in the system. These products are more forgiving and thus easier to install in non-standard openings, caused by equipment shifting or settling. By pre-compressing or pre-extending the bellows to the required length, there will still be enough movement capabilities for operation.

Easy Installation With Alignment Flanges. The floating metallic flanges freely rotate on the bellows, compensating for mating flange misalignment, thus speeding up installation time. Gaskets are not required with the Series 240.

Less System Strain With Thin Wall Design. Manufactured by high pressure molding of elastomer and high-tensile fabric reinforcement, the Series 240 have a thinner wall section and lighter weight. Lower spring forces are therefore required, reducing piping/ flange/ equipment stress-strain-damage. Hydro-Flex Series 240 are acceptable for use with plastic piping systems where even lower deflection forces are required.

Specifications. The Hydro-Flex Series 240 is designed to meet or exceed the pressure, movement and dimensional rate of the “Spool” Arch Types as shown in the Rubber Expansion Joint Division, Fluid Sealing Association “Technical Handbook – Sixth Edition” Table V.

Absorbs Vibration-Noise-Shock. The Hydro-Flex Series 240 quiet operating is a replacement for “sound transmitting” metallic expansion joints. Sound loses energy travelling axially through the elastomer bellows. Water hammer pumping impulses and water-born noises are cushioned and absorbed by the molded lightweight thin-wall structure. Install the Series 240 in a system to enable isolated equipment to move freely on its vibration mountings, or to reduce vibration transmission when the piping section beyond the expansion joint is anchored or sufficiently rigid.

Flange Materials/ Drilling. All Hydro-Flex Series 240 connectors are furnished complete with plated carbon steel flanges for corrosion protection and are tapped to ANSI 150# standards. Stainless Steel flanges are available upon special order.

Chemical Service Capability At Minimal Cost. Expensive, exotic metal expansion joints for chemical service can be replaced with the Hydro-Flex Series 240. Molded with low cost chemical resistant elastomers such as Neoprene, Nitrile, Hypalon, EPDM, and Chlorobutyl; insures an expansion joint is compatible with the fluid being pumped or piped.

Wide Service Range With Low Cost. Engineered to operate up to 300psi and 265 ° F, the Hydro-Flex Series 240 can be specified for a wide range of piping requirements.

Hydro-Flex 240 Rubber Expansion Joints

SJ-21 Expansion Join
This is the industry standard spool type expansion joint. It is available with 0 – 4 arches depending on the movements required, and 3 standard pressure ratings. This joint is hand built in a variety of elastomers for the most unusual and difficult applications. It can be constructed with filled arches to eliminate settling of solids in the arch and Teflon liners may be incorporated for the more sever chemical applications. This joint is also available in concentric or eccentric tapers for connecting piping of different sizes.

SJ-205 Expansion Joint
This style of expansion joint is interchangeable with the Style SJ-21 series, but this joint has a streamlined arch shape which is self cleaning, eliminating the need for filled arches.

MJ-60 Expansion Joint
A low cost double wide arch joint, externally reinforced, molded butyl expansion joint with twice the movement capacity of the standard joints. Commonly used in pulp and paper mills, as well as water and waste treatment applications. Special hand made versions of this joint are available in different elastomers and multiple arch configurations for other types of applications.
